I had avg virus program installed but it was always doing scan which slowed the computer down, so i installed pc guard from the virgin site. It uninstalled avg in the process, and since then neither off the programs work. I am also getting security alerts that i am not protected. I have tried to download other virus programs and they just come to a stop.

If they come to a stop, it might be because you already have a virus or some nasty spyware that is interferring with the program. Another sign is if an antivirus program does't update.

Thank you for the link Andrew, but it will not get any further than the run prompt then it just vanishes.
I been trying to reformat the hard drive but that only gets me so far in and then wants an administrator password. I never had a password to get into the system.

Viruses can stop programs running like that.

I've got a disc I use to get around the password problem. Have you got any system discs that came with the computer?

Reboot from the operating system disk. You might have to get into the bios to change the boot sequence so the CD or DVD drive boots before the hard drive. Hopefully you should then be able to reformat from the operating system DVD.
